Gilbert Minoru Ashikawa, 97, of Kailua-Kona died Dec. 8, 2017, at Ruth’s Place Care Home. Born in Holualoa, he was the founder of Kona Scenic Land Inc. and was a public accountant, tropical fruit farmer, insurance agent, past member of Kona Lions Club, charter member of Kona Rotary Club and member of Holualoa Kumiai and Daifukuji Soto Mission. Private services held. Survived by son, Gary Ashikawa of Honolulu; daughters, Amy Hata of Kailua-Kona and Faye (Terrence) McComas of Kealakekua; sister, Betty Tanga of Honolulu; brother, James Ashikawa of California; seven grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Juana Miguel Bruno, 85, of Redwood City, Calif., formerly of Hawi, died Jan. 11 at Stanford Medical Center in California. Born in Marcos, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a housekeeper for the former Royal Waikoloan and King Kamehameha hotels, macadamia nut picker, cleaner for Kohala Laundromat and member of Kohala Kumiai, Filipino Club and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Hosho Totoki, 87, of Captain Cook died Nov. 10, 2017, at Hospice of Kona Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa.
